What items need to be approved to go in the baggage?

Find out the list of items that must be authorized by us or by the competent authorities to be carried in your baggage.

• Self-inflating safety devices with integrated small non-flammable gas cartridges:
  • Life jacket packed in a way that it cannot be accidentally activated. It may only contain carbon dioxide or other gas. It may not have more than two spare cartridges. You are allowed to carry only one personal safety device.
  • Other devices are allowed, with up to four small carbon dioxide cartridges per person. The water capacity of the cylinders must not exceed 50 ml (28 g).
• Avalanche rescue backpack, one per person containing compressed gas cartridges. May also be equipped with a pyrotechnic trigger mechanism containing not more than 200 mg net explosives. It must be packaged in such a way that it cannot be accidentally activated. Inflatable bags inside backpacks must have pressure relief valves.
• Chemical agent monitoring equipment should be carried by Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) staff members on official travel. This may be: a chemical agent monitor (CAM) or a rapid alarm and identification device monitor (RAID-M).
• Lithium battery-powered devices (PEDs), devices with lithium cells or batteries which provide electrical energy for their operation. These devices are allowed in checked baggage and carry-on baggage in compliance with the following:  
• Drones that use rechargeable lithium batteries (lithium ion) with a nominal capacity of more than 100 Wh but less than or equal to 160 Wh. If your drone battery is less than 100 Wh you do not require authorization.
  • Drone with batteries installed must be packed to avoid damage and accidental activation.
  • Turn it off completely (not in sleep or hibernation mode).
  • Carry a maximum of 2 spare batteries only in your carry on baggage and packed to avoid short circuits (protective bags).
• Dry ice. Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice) in quantities not exceeding 2.5 kg per person, when used to package non-hazardous perishable substances. The baggage (package) must allow the release of the carbon dioxide gas marked with the following legend Carbon dioxide, "solid" or "Dry ice"; and the net weight of the dry ice (maximum 2.5 kg per baggage).
• Mercury barometers or thermometers transported by a representative of a government weather bureau or similar agency and must be packed in a strong outer container having a sealed inner liner or a sack of very strong leak-proof material; puncture resistant and impervious to mercury that prevents mercury spills, regardless of the position of the package.
• Spare lithium batteries individually protected to prevent short circuits. For example, you could cover exposed terminals with tape or put each battery in a separate plastic protective bag or sleeve.
  • Lithium-ion batteries (rechargeable) with a nominal capacity of more than 100 Wh but less than 160 Wh. You are allowed to carry 2 batteries in your carry-on baggage.
  • Lithium metal batteries (non-rechargeable) with a content of more than 2 grams but not exceeding 8 grams. You are allowed to carry batteries in your carry-on baggage for portable medical equipment only.
