Can I travel with my wheelchair?

You are welcome to take or request a wheelchair without charge. If you require this service, you can request it on zenAir.com when purchasing your ticket, by entering your booking code and last name in the Manage your booking section, or by calling our Contact center.

I want to take my wheelchair with me I want to request a wheelchair

• You can only bring it free of charge if you have some kind of disability and require it for your use, otherwise it will be registered as additional baggage.
• Please notify us that you are traveling with a wheelchair at the time you make your reservation or at least 24 hours before your flight departure. If you're flying to or from Europe, you need to make a reservation for a wheelchair at least 48 hours in advance.
• In order to transport it safely, please inform us of the manufacturer's instructions for disassembly and assembly, whether it requires any specifications to be carried in the hold, and whether or not the batteries are spillable.
• For flights to or from the U.S. on single-aisle aircraft, your wheelchair will be stowed in the hold under DOT-approved procedures.
• Consult the requirements for carrying battery-powered wheelchairs.

 

• When purchasing your ticket, click on Special Services and enter the section for people with disabilities or contact our Contact Center.
• Make the request at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of your flight. If you are flying to or from Europe you need to make a reservation for a wheelchair at least 48 hours in advance.
• Tell us about the specific characteristics and conditions you require for your service.
• Let us know if you are carrying any additional medical equipment (oxygen concentrators, portable dialysis equipment, among others). You can transport as many items as you need.
• To activate the service, arrive well in advance at the airport. At least 4 hours before for international flights and 3 hours before for domestic flights. Please note that if you do not make your reservation within the recommended time, we cannot guarantee the service.

Recommendations for transporting battery-powered wheelchairs

• Dry, nickel-metal hydride or lithium batteries do not need to be removed unless this is needed for handling the wheelchair, and the battery must be properly secured to the wheelchair.
• Switch if off before you hand it over to us, with the edges protected against short circuits and with the battery secured to the structure.
• When you arrive at the airport counter, please inform us of the type of battery your wheelchair is equipped with, as well as the manufacturer's instructions for disassembly and assembly and, if necessary, any recommendations for the cargo hold regarding handling of the battery. This in order to ensure it is handled safely.
• Check that the electrical terminals (positive and negative) are protected against short circuits.

Wheelchairs with spillable (wet) batteries:

• We do not transport mobility aids or wheelchairs with spillable (wet) batteries installed.
• To transport these, it is necessary to remove the battery from your wheelchair and pack it in leak-proof packaging, protected from short circuits, secured in an upright position and surrounded by sufficient compatible absorbent material.
• The packaging must bear the following visible warning: BATTERY, WET, WITH WHEELCHAIR, and it must be labeled with the corrosive label and with the package orientation label. 

Transportation of spare batteries

• Dry or nickel-metal hydride batteries:You can bring a maximum of two (2) spare batteries with you, only in the aircraft cargo hold, in solid and rigid packaging. For example: cardboard, plastic, wood, steel or aluminum, duly marked with your information, flight number and destination.
• Lithium batteries: You are only allowed to carry one (1) spare lithium ion battery on board, which must not exceed 300 Wh, or two (2) spare batteries, not exceeding 160 Wh each.
• NON-spillable wet batteries:You can bring a maximum of one (1) spare battery with you, only in the aircraft cargo hold, in solid and rigid packaging. For example: cardboard, plastic, wood, steel or aluminum, duly marked with your information, flight number and destination.
